PCE Ltd. delivered a multi-functional building for Volkswagen, which is a 15,468m2 structure. It is a suspended four-storey facility with a service centre at ground floor, a showroom at first and second floors, offices, as well as 7300m² of car parking over four suspended levels.
This is a global project that included the construction of a new building for the station, reorganisation of the public space and pedestrian link, the rehabilitation of several streets and a private housing development. The project also includes the refurbishment of a park containing urban vegetable gardens for the inhabitants of the city.
The two floodgates of Sluis 124 in Amsterdam Oost IJburg are a world first. The structure consists of two steelfibe reinforced high strength concrete sliding doors, that glide across a film of water (hydro feet). Haitsma Beton produced the unique doors and transported on behalf of Schuurmans Betonbouw. The concrete doors are much cheeper due to lower construction costs and maintenance costs than the steel version would. The doors are ten centimeters thick and more than 6 metres long. They weigh approximately 14 tons each.
Each year in the Netherlands, the birthday of Queen Beatrix is celebrated on 30th of April. It's a national holiday, with everyone dressed in orange and celebrating with music and markets. Normally, the Royal family visits two Dutch towns to celebrate with the inhabitants of the village. In 2013, however, the announced visit of the Royal family was cancelled, due to a historic event: Queen Beatrix handed over the power to her son, Willem-Alexander. He was crowned king of the Netherlands on the 30th of April 2013.
